Empowering the youth
The Lavela-Hope Arise Centre is an NPO established by the Cross Centred Community Church (C4). It is envisioned to be a youth and community centre providing a much needed safe space for the young people of Msawawa, an informal settlement situated next to Kya Sands in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Centre will accommodate youth who are in school, school drop-outs or having finished school and have no means to further their studies.
There continues to be substantial population growth of the number of people living in Msawawa, these are however not supported by organisations or public health services within the community. Lavela–Hope Arise saw an opportunity to serve the Msawawa community by empowering them in meeting their daily needs and investing in the youth, thereby allowing them to turn their lives around.

The ultimate goal is to have one big centre servicing the local and nearby communities. Growth is planned conservatively, to be financed from the centres cash flows; a model successfully applied by our mother church Christ Church Midrand which currently has reached over 9000 primary and secondary beneficiaries in disadvantaged communities.
Exposure to a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect is essential.
The Lavela-Hope Arise Centre and its programme will be established with the core purpose of youth empowerment. We aim to engage the youth of Msawawa through skills development programmes and by assisting them through positive influence and building their self-esteem and resilience. The Centre will foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. At-risk young people in Msawawa have lost faith in the possibility of improving their lives.
